Building and Endowment Fund and Marketing it
to Key Donors and Prospects
We help nonprofit organizations set up, market and build their
Endowment Funds for future strength, security and independence.
Endowment is the means whereby a nonprofit builds a secure,
stable financial future. Endowment is also the way a charitable organization
can build "discretionary income" for the future.
At Philanthropy Solutions, LLC. we are ready to help nonprofit staff
and volunteers see the benefits of endowment, and then set up an endowment
fund that will sustain them over the years.
Here are some of the steps we typically use when setting up an endowment
fund for a client:
- Write an endowment resolution to establish the endowment fund
- Write a set of policies and procedures for taking gifts into the endowment
fund
- Write a set of investment policies and guidelines for investing the endowment
fund assets
- Work with the Board to adopt the resolution and the policies
- Work with staff to create a marketing plan, marketing materials for the
endowment fund
- Work with staff and volunteers to help them learn how to cultivate and
solicit planned gifts for the endowment fund
- In some cases, we assist staff and volunteers with cultivation and solicitation
work
Training is available to nonprofit Boards to help them understand
the steps of setting up an endowment and the issues that involve Board decisions.
Here are some of the training
sessions we've devised:
- How to Create an Endowment Fund Step by Step
- How to Use a Template Endowment Resolution to Start an Endowment
- How to Market Endowment to your Constituencies
- Why an Endowment is Useful for Today's Nonprofits
- Pitfalls and Mines to Avoid
- The Place of Endowment in the Financial Picture of an Organization
Here's a book we've found very helpful
over the years and think it can make you more effective.
